7 Simple To Dos for LinkedIn Rookies to Enhance Their Profiles

This Social Media in Organizations (SMinOrgs) post provides seven basic recommendations that can help LinkedIn (LI) rookies upgrade their profiles from anemic to respectable. These tasks can be tackled in as little as an hour (and no more than a half-day session) and will produce a solid basic presence that also lays a foundation for future development.

Judging from the anemic LinkedIn (LI) profiles I view on a daily basis, I hope that many professionals have resolved to enhance them in 2012. I know people are busy, but if how they represent themselves as professionals is important to them (and it should be), they need to make the time. Anyone who can manage to carve out time to go to a hair stylist should also be able to carve out time to ensure their basic cyber presence is well styled too.

Digital Era Employment Practices Under Fire – Again!

What do you get when you cross the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS or DOC), an employee applying for recertification, an (alleged) policy asking for login information for social media sites (e.g., Facebook), the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and YouTube?

Apparently, a media frenzy, heightened emotions , misunderstandings and misrepresentations, irrational, profanity-laced discourse, and a clear hue and cry from a populace that basically says “no way, no how – not now, not ever!”

And if you're a savvy employer, you (re)evaluate your own policies and practices related to individual use of social media and revise them accordingly…

There's been a mini media firestorm about this issue this week. In addition to commenting on other articles/posts, I thought I should write my own reflection.

Social Media and Integrated Talent Management: Opportunities and Challenges

Last week I attended a fantastic Talent Acquisition Interest Group meeting offered by the Human Resources Management Association, Chicago (HRMAC). HRMAC’s meetings are always top-notch, of course, but this one got me thinking about the links between social media and talent acquisition in some new ways.

New digital technologies can enhance various talent management processes and help organizational leaders address both general and specific challenges. As powerful as social media is, however, it’s certainly not a panacea, and it’s not as easy to leverage as some advocates would argue. This SMinOrgs blog post addresses some of the opportunities and challenges that struck me as I listened to the panelists talk.
